DFB Cup: HSV Ring KSC in Wildem Fight
The journey continues, Berlin moves closer to the triple in a penalty shooting: The Hamburg SV stands for a wild catch-up in the semi-final of the DFB Cup and can dream more than ever from the first major title for 35 years.
The team of coach Tim Walter won on Wednesday thanks to Torwart Daniel Heuer Fernandes with 3: 2 in penalties against the Karlsruhe SC.
Heuer Fernandes have "previously played a superior season, I was sure he was at least one," said HSV journey continuess board Jonas Boldt at "Sky", but it was even better: The goalkeeper kept crucial against Marvin Wanitzek and Ricardo Van Rhijn, also Daniel O'Shaghnessy failed. Already in the two rounds before the HSV had arrived in penalties.
"We knew that is a lot on the game today, we have a great morality this season," said Boldt, "It was not the first time we came back." After the extension, it had been in the gripping cup thriller of the two second division 2: 2 (2: 2, 0: 1).
Double packer Robert Glatzel (52./90.+1) had the interim 2-0 guidance of the KSC by Philip Heise (40th) and Philipp Hofmann (50th) balanced and saved the HSV to the extension. The brave guests might lack the forces in the end, because the Baden had to act for Christoph Kobald for the yellow-red card for Christoph Kobald (72nd) for a long time.
Last HSV Triumph in the DFB Cup 1987
For the first time since 2019, HSV moved back into the semi-final of the DFB Cup, which the red reddosen last 1987 won. This year, the chance of Triumph in Berlin is not as big as for years, as the heavyweights Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are already eliminated in the laps.
"It's anything but a self-runner," HSV journey continuess board Jonas Boldt had said before the game - and he should keep right. Although Hamburgers aggressively played forward, but inaccuracies or the well-organized KSC defensive prevented the great opportunities first.
The HSV had more of the game overall, but the guests were always better on the combinations - and in turn became courageous with increasing playing time, they kept their chance. The lead by heise after a nice free kick was anything but undeserved.
Wild phase after the half-time break
Really wild it was then after resourceful. Only increased Hofmann for Karlsruhe, Glatzel answered only seconds later.
Of course, the HSV pushed forward with all the power forward, and again Sonny's smash and the fast Bakery Jatta wanted - but smacked a controversial penalty after video proof (72nd).
The Karlsruher defended 25,000 spectators in the Volkspark with everything they had - and then Glatzel got the footpoint to a cross of Jatta. The extension remained goatless, the decision fell from the point.
